Visual Jazz Is A Lively Improvisation continued….

Maker’s Statement—Winter 2025 continued….
I consider my work to be Visual Jazz. It is colorful, lively, and uplifting. As an amateur jazz trumpeter, I have deep roots in the genre. This is relevant because my work is improvisational. The pace at which my work is created is determined by the medium. For example, monotype prints and jazz performance paintings are quick to make. They are spontaneous. Sculptural, mixed-media paintings and kinetic steel sculptures take a lot longer to make and yet, they are improvised.
I love movement so my mixed media-sculptures, including my wall hung works, have always been kinetic. They display serendipitous movement and rhythms and are my version of whirligigs that I loved so much as a child.
Thank you for your interest.
